Make Your Mark

Public awareness campaign

An uplifting campaign designed to raise the profile of living kidney donations in the UK.

‘Make Your Mark’ is a campaign bringing together Kidney Research UK, Give a Kidney and the Robert Dangoor Partnership for Living Kidney Donation to help raise awareness of living kidney donation and ultimately bring hope to thousands of people.

The waiting list for a kidney donation in the UK currently stands at around 5000. With 6 people a week dying while waiting for that life-saving transplant. Most donations currently come from people who have died or those who donate to a relative or friend. Only 1000 people in the UK have ever donated a kidney to a stranger – this campaign is designed to change that statistic.

After speaking to living donors, it became apparent that there’s a rare but wonderful group of generosity junkies who want to do the most amount of good they possibly can.

They’re ordinary but special people who realised they had something inside them that could save the life of someone else.

This insight led to the central campaign idea: “Is it inside you to save a life?” The campaign aims to reach more of these people, encourage them to come forward, and then begin the consideration and screening process for kidney donation.

Life-affirming film and social assets introduce these real-life living kidney donors and recipients. They share their experiences while displaying body art to reinforce the message that the ability to save a life could be inside any of us.

The campaign features Kay Mason, the first-ever altruistic kidney donor, former England footballer Andy Cole, and Marilyse from Married at First Sight series 6.
