In the face of escalating and ongoing crises, people are feeling powerless, and we are becoming normalised to mass upheaval. So, is it any surprise we have entered a period of mass apathy? We are seeing this played out in a number of ways, especially in the growing number of people choosing to switch off from the news entirely. Whilst 2024 was filled with this increasingly familiar feeling, it also gave us moments of joy, unity and a collective movement that we hope is the start of a change in sentiment to overcome apathy and inspire action. That shift is crucial and gives organisations the chance to lean into creativity, cultivate support, and push for a better society for the rest of the 2020s.

So, how can charities help stem this growing tide of apathy and help people find new ways to come together, connect and fight for causes that matter to them? It’s no easy feat, but we genuinely believe that if we can cut through the news cycle of despair and show people how they can make a real difference – there will be change.
